Dark Heart

So yeah once again I can't sleep. Never can after I dream about bugs. Yep, another bug dream. Not a major scary one, a la Acranphobia--my dream just had a bug thought in it and poof I am awake. I also liesten to Sting before I fell asleep. Leaving me all worried...that song Russians always gets to me...didn't help that its followed by Children's Crusade.

It left me thinking two things...a measure of one advancement in civilisation is the way we treat our children...and how so many countries treat them worse than animals. The phrase, "Our children are our future," has become so blase and impotent. It's not just the laws protecting kids, but our devotion to them that is important. Not just making sure their physical needs are met, but their social and spiritual needs. Kids aren't just a depository of information and dreams. But sentient people with a need to be heard, respected, and validated.

Validate your child. Respect them too. It won't led to a break down in discipline. It will motivate them to better people.

Sometimes I think the hardest thing for people to do is to see the other people around them as people too. It's difficult to see the sack of skin beside you on the train as some one with hopes, dreams, thoughts, feelings, and needs. I think that's we are at least rude, and at most killers (not all of us mind you, but those who have an even harder time seeing others as human).
