I talked to my father yesterday. I am always thrown off balance when I talk to him. It's always very awkward. He and my mother divorced when I was three. He obtained custody after a very nasty and tramatic custody hearing. The next 14 months may have been the worst of my life. He lost custody due to neglect and drug abuse. My mother came to get me after he had broken both legs skiing...drugs and snow don't mix. I really don't know him. He didn't talk for over a decade. Then only sporatically. I don't think of him as my Dad. The most I can catergorise him in my life is a friend...an older man I have known about for 23 years. But he really has no definate place in my life.

Sometimes it's very lonely. We all wish for the perfect family...some of us are lucky enough to get it. The others...we just have to accept that we don't and cope--deal with it. Then there are those whose families are better left alone.

I should write a book. Earnestly and seriously..write a book...a story about something I know a little about. They say you should write about what you know. Maybe I should stop writing fantasy and right about love and loss...solitude and loneliness.
