Everyone is a buzz with the news with the Californian Sumpreme Courts decision that the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional. At first I was shocked...then I was like well duh! I am sure I am going to get flak from my mother and I am sure she is going to go on a rant, but...I do think that the Pledge is unconstitutional. Children are made to memorise and recite it every school day...and if I were Buddist or Wiccan or Hindu or didn't believe in a god(s) at all I would not want my child to be made to memorise and recite the phrase "one under God" every day. It's my job to raise my child and to decide what religion they are exposed or not exposed to. Sure I can explain to my child that "one under God" is an expression used by Christians, Jews, Muslims and other believers of a monotheism, with no significance to a higher power. But, recitation is a powerful thing...especially at that young an age...children from 5 to 12 are made to recite it daily, and can unduly influence children who are from a non-monotheism background. Sure children eventually need to make their own decisions about what they believe...but when they are older.

Religion is for the home...not for the state sponsered schools. Public schools are responsible for citizenship, reading, writing, and math...the rest is up to us at parents.

Myself: I am planning on home-schooling--so I don't have to worry about these sort issues with my children. Now when Mic does learn the pledge he will learn the current "one nation under God" version. I personally see no problem with Mic learning it that way.
