Our way is the best way. This simple phrase lies at the heart why the world at large distrusts the United States. I'd rather put forth a twist on that phrase. Our way is not the best way. And I wish every American, including our Leaders, would repeat this matra every night 20 times before going to bed.

It's a human flaw, I suppose. We don't suppose that the world outside our own is any different. As we fear those differences, we refuse to seem them. Then if we actually realise that there are differences, we convince ourselves that those are only surface differences and if we impose our own way of doing things on them...then not only will they be happy (just like us), but those will stop being so different.

And that of course does not work. What is good for the goose is not good for the gander. An old old phrase (I don't even remember who said it), but it is one we need to change. And I am not saying we need to be isolationists, we just need to respect each other enough to respect our differences and help out nonetheless.
