Hysteria is the new black
Of all the things the media has been hysterical about lately (housing "crisis", MSRA "epidemic) the cold medicine for children is worrisome to me. I am not the sort of parent that doses a kid up for every sniffle. But I like the option to use cold medicines to relieve symptoms so the kids can sleep or when the snots flow like a river. I am not sure how they can say they don't work--I've SEEN snots running like a faucet stop when I turn on the medicine "faucet." How can they say antihistimanes DON'T work. My son gets HIVES when ever he sweats, cries, or gets dust on him... When the hives start to multiply and his face starts to swell I use benedryl. And gee IT makes the hives and the swelling GO AWAY. How's that for not working.
I haven't taken Mic to an allergist yet because I don't think he's old enough to suffer through skin tests and allergy shots (IF they have shots for being allergic to your own body fluids).
I wish we could be trusted to care for our children and have the responsibility to know that sometimes bad things happen sometimes.
But frankly I am tried of the media whipping up frenzies.

Hi there ... sorry the month has been rough with colds and so much more at your house ... it has been about the same at our house except GI stuff instead of colds. :-(
I love reading your stuff ... wish I got over here a bit more (do most of my blog reading in Google Reader these days and can't get a feed of your blog that way).
So sorry to hear about your friend's son, Kyle.
And I totally understand putting off all of the allergy stuff as I've been doing the same thing with Nessa but it makes it so hard when I always wonder what it is she might be reacting to and know that when I thought I had figured my own food allergies out myself I was completely worng about a few things and when I followed what the tests said it certainly seemed to make a difference (blood test though not skin).
Take care -
Tami
