Can a movie ever be true to the book? Ever capture the spirit of the book?? J. saw Battlefield Earth last night and is thoroughly discusted with how the book was butchered. We watched The Clan of the Cave Bear just now--it failed to capture the nuances of the book. I know a few directors have been able to aptly translate a book to film...but I can't think of any...its too rare.
