Sometimes I just wonder...

Why the hell I just don't move to Canada. Or perhaps my own private island.

Okay, I try to give Bush the benefit of the doubt. It's election year and a republican and so the media is enjoying a year old feeding frenzy. But his latest proclamation sickens me. All of this debate reminds me of the civil rights era. Why are we debating a fundamental right?

Who cares if Joe blow thinks it's wrong (I don't), but it shouldn't matter if it's two consenting men who want to get married or if two consenting women or a consenting dark skinned person and a consenting light skinned person want to marry. There shouldn't be controversy. If they want to let them. It's really none of our business what they do in their homes.

As for trying to protect the meaning behind marriage...Give me a break. Through out history people have married lot's of different kinds of people...marriage in my opinion is a union of two soul who are committed to each other and want others to know that they are committed. Simple as that. It doesn't have to be for love, or money, or convience, or citizenship, or whatever. It is just their as a proclamation of union.

What sickens me is this. My vision of the federal government is a institution that protects the constitution. Not a religious organization that tries to enforce their own brand or "morality." The federal government should be protecting the civil rights of those who want to marry with freedom....not snatching it away.

I read a letter to the editor in my local newspaper that said the people have spoken and no one wants gays to marry. Yeah if we had that philosophy in the 60's and 70's we'd still live in a segregated society. Some times the majority doesn't have enough wisdom beyond it's own interests to see the needs of others...and that's when the government ought to step in and makes sure that everyone is free to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
