Hobbies of the Wierd

Another foray into entomology: Ensign Wasp. As an unfortunate hobby I acquired this past year of collecting cockroach egg cases, I discovered three ensign wasps in my jar of egg cases.

They look menacing...the things seem huge. So I looked them up and poof they are actually beneficial and kill cockroaches before they hatch. Problem: I don't want to let them out even if they are good because they look so darn icky.

I am sure some of you are shaking your heads...you are collecting WHAT?? Well if I throw them away then they'll hatch right and poof more leetle cockroaches--which gorw into huge 4cm long monsters. The egg case is pretty hard so to make sure they don't hatch and escape. I put them in a wee jar...some hatch and promptly die due to lack of food and oxygen.

So I am off to unscrew the lid to my jar--the website did claim that they don't sting or bother humans. I really hope not--they really freak me out--must be those legs.

Just popping in from the Amazing Lace. I don't know how you ever managed to open that jar... I'd have to run screaming. ;-)
