Birthday-ness
Yesterday was the 7th time I turned 25 (it's my little time experiment--how long can I stay 25??). Contrary to what it seems--I don't mind aging per se--I do mind time passing. I am not sure why, but it freaks me out. I probably would suck as a time traveler. And birthdays just remind me that another year has whizzed passed.
Despite my hang ups, I had a lovely birthday. Earlier in the week my parents gave me a gift card to Knit Picks, which I spent promptly. I thought it was my duty as a consumer in this sagging economy to help Cyber Monday sales figures. And I did with great relish. I got several knitting books that had camped out in my Amazon wishlist and several hanks of yarn to work the projects with in these great books of knitting lace pr0n. I also picked out two balls of luscious RED sock yarn. And a purty lace weight hank in a deep foresty, bluey green color. (Yes, I know, you non-knitting folks, your eyes are beginning to glaze over...one more ebullient yarny shriek) About a week ago, I had the kids "buy" me some beautiful hanks of yarn.

I also got a beautiful red coat from my in-laws. I picked it out at the end of summer, when they came up for a visit. I had it in the garage--calling to me for months now. I finally got to wear it today!! Woot. It's just gorgeous.
I spent the day yesterday doing some Christmas shopping before we dropped the kids off for an overnight stay with A. (She actually suggested the overnight arrangement--now WHO am I to argue??) (I also picked up a few gifties for myself--a gorgeous wrap and some lilac scented soap--luv lilacs) Jamey and I were now free to enjoy a nice quiet, intimate dinner at one of my favourite restaurants: Cafe Milano--where they serve the best Chicken Marsala--and folks, they ARE NOT stingy with that glorious sauce. I am not above licking that plate clean (I managed to behave myself last night, however).
After dinner, we went to the Shops at La Cantera for my birthday present: a new corset. Luckily, Fredrick's of Hollywood had some proper corsets and on sale. So I got two. Red (because red, I LOVE RED and I can wear it under dark clothes) and white (for every day use). I just love the huggy feeling and it gives me curves--which as a stick I need. Grin. Despite the cold (a cold front came in that morning), we had a good time walking around the shops (it is a very nice high end shopping center). Although it did take us nearly 20 minutes to find a parking space. As we looked at the crowded lot (esp. the crowded Neiman Marcus lot)--Jamey and I turned to each other--are you sure we're in a recession??? Actually and thankfully, Texas is doing quite well despite the hardships around us. We are blessed.
Then of we went to what I was most looking forward to (although the corsets are pretty up there as well): Twilight. It was a good movie and I think it did capture the book quite well. And sparkly Edward--was done well...just what I imagined. I was caught off guard by the film makers style: it's very much like my own. A little mind trip, I'll tell you. The theatre was pretty empty, since it WAS a Thursday and freaking cold; I was spared the fan girl squeals and shrieks.
It was very nice going to bed and waking up with no kids bouncing and pouncing all over the place. And it was reported that the kids had a good time and behaved themselves....just a little bouncy--which is really my kids to a tee.
Today: I have been assembling various Christmas presents I am delivering to Secret Santas. I am also trying to stay warm--and marveling at how my kids can wear shorts on a day like this...
