Recovered Enough

I had the best weekend. So great it's taken me a day or two to actually get around to blogging about it.

One of my good friends turned 30 on Sunday. MAJOR freakout. Which is to be expected its a big milestone. It took me an ENTIRE year to wrap my head around the fact that I was 30. Now I am approaching 32 and I am feeling the dread: I am NEARLY at my mid-30s. I am hoping I do or don't do anything embarrassing when I go to Dallas this weekend to see U2. Weeeeell, we all went out to a fancy restaurant Saturday to celebrate. Fancy enough that I didn't take pictures like I wanted to...because DUDE we had beautiful men in beautiful gaucho pants bringing us MEAT ON SWORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was Chauma Gaucha (it's a restaurant review, I don't think they have a website). Much wine was consumed (by others--don't like the stuff) and much fun was had. The meat was amazing. What you do is when you are ready for the meat (they have an awesome salad bar, that's TOTALLY not like Soup or Salad, it has cheeses and steamed beggies, a ROUND of parm!!!) you turn over a card and MEN DESCEND UPON YOU bearing swords full of MEAT. Perfectly cooked, succulent pieces of flesh...dude I was in HEAVEN. I told Jamey to save up for my birthday, THIS is where I want to go!!! I was able to have some raw steak which, I totally prefer over anything else. I have always been scared of asking for raw, but since they cut it for you right off the sword and you can SEE it and you get a slice at a time...it's not as scary. So good. I was in heaven. Meat Heaven.

We had so much fun the time kinda ran away from us (and some problems with the check) and we missed part two of my friend's special evening: ghost hunting downtown! And yes it would have been JUST like Ghost Hunters on SyFy. But we all promised we would try to do this later on this month.

So we went to a bar/grill called The Flying Saucer for beers and to count down to midnight.

I had planned on going home, but my friend was shell shocked by turning 30. (Strangely enough she didn't remember any of this. She asked me when she woke up in the morning why I was still there and no one else was. LOL) During the early morning it rained and rained and then the sky decided to upend its self and it POURED. God knows San Antonio needs the rain, but damn it was loud! And the storm knocked out a transformer...so we were without power for 6 hours.

Okay so where were my kids?

Anne was with us, celebrating out friend's birthday and we asked her husband to watch the kids (the dinner festivities started before J. got off work). And HE said hey why I don't watch the overnight as well. (Famous last words) Well it didn't go so well and my kids (along with Anne's grandson) turned into shit throwing monkeys. My two are now on restriction this week. Yay!! I guess because they got their arses chewed off, they have been angels since. Sort of...well as much as my two criminal geniuses can be. I found this on my wall last night:

My kids the sciencists

Micci wanted to save their hair for posterity. And yes, it is Kittenhead's fur, Micci and Lorelei's hair, and Gina's fur. (And yes my wall looked like that BEFORE)

Sigh.

Despite the rain, the local soccer fields were dry, so Mic was able to have his soccer game last night. Not only did his team "win" (they don't keep score officially but you better believe the kids keep track!), but Micci was the goalie for the first time and for the first quarter. He did an awesome job and played hard. And passed out when we got home that evening.

Micci as the goalie!

Blogging, um yeah...

I promised more blogging right? And I meant it. But then came ILLNESS and PLAGUE and PANDEMIC!!

I don't know if it was a cold, seasonal flu, swine flu, goose flu or just plain kick you on your ass so the kids can run amok around your feverish coughing body flu--but 75% of the humans in the house had THAT. It first began with Lori, then Micci, then they got better (no more moaning in bed, feverish), and of course then I got sick. Because I am the Mommy and don't actually get to lay in bed moaning feverishly, I took a bit longer to get better.

It all started Tuesday and I was able to get out of bed, upright and clothed mid-afternoon Monday.

I was too exhausted and sick to knit for the entire weekend--I know amazing! Thank heaven I had a laptop because the internet provided some relief from the boredom of being in bed. By Sunday I was tired of being sick already and texted Jamey to bring home medicine for me. Cough and cold and flu and what ever he could get--I had to get out of bed. Because, every time I got out of bed to get water or toast-the house was in more of a shambles.

So yesterday I was able to pull myself out of bed for a shower. Dude, I had to take a NAP after the shower. It was exhausting standing for that long. But the hot water helped clear my lungs and head.

Now today, TODAY is hobbit day. And Lorelei's FIFTH birthday. WHOA. Where has the time gone? My wee little baby is FIVE today. Crazy!

Lorelei is FIVE

It was a very rainy, cool day today (wonderful way to start Autumn). I made pink cupcakes before we left on Lorelei's special day. We went to lunch at a place of her choosing (McDonald's), then to Target for presents (more about that in a bit), and then to Hobby Lobby--because SHE WANTED YARN FOR HER BIRTHDAY!!!! I am so proud.

In between Lorelei recovering and me getting sick (there was about a day)-she wanted me to teach her to knit. She is such a willing and patient student. I must say A LOT easier to teach than her brother. So from then on--she's been wanting to go to the yarn store to get her own yarn. (Yeah we are going to let her think Hobby Lobby is her yarn store for now. No need to get the girl hooked on high end fibers just now.)

So Target: she wandered the girlie toy aisles looking at all the toys. She stopped briefly at the Polly Pocket display and pointed to a largish box, "Mommy, Can I not get that?" Say What? Do you want that? "No." Then why.... By that time she wandered off, leaving me in my daze. She also selected a few stuffed animals that she wanted for her next birthday. But what do you want for THIS birthday. Eventually she selected a few Little Petshop thingys. Cute, cool, and she's not introducing new toys into the mix. Yay!! (We like to keep their toy categories to about 3 or 4.)

It was all about Lorelei today, but I gotta share a Micci story. At this point I see that Micci will either be a politician or a scam artist (I know whats the difference?). Phisto often tells me that my kids are criminal geniuses. And my main worry as a parent is to somehow guide all these smarts in to positive, GOOD, moral outlets. One thing Micci does to his sister is convince her over the months and weeks preceding her birthday or Christmas, that the toy she most wants, is actually a toy MICCI wants. So Jamey and I are left, trying to undo his brotherly brainwashing to deduce what in actuality SHE wants.

Kids are GOOFY

I'm so screwed aren't I?

Birthday Pictures

Yesterday was a bit crazy, so I cleaned to work out the stress (it really didn't help as I tossed and turned all night--really people, I just don't get them!). But I did manage to edit and upload Micci's Birthday party pics.

Micci and his Cake

This is Mic and his Spider man cake. He's been pining for this cake for over a year (last year he had a Dinocake and dino themed party but planned for the Spiderman theme for his 7th birthday even before he celebrated his 6th birthday). The Spiderman spun around the building and Mic had loads of fun playing with his cake. The top portion was white cake and the bottom was chocolate. Yum!

The Balloons

These are his balloons. Jamey asked for a small bunch (over the phone) and the floral department at his HEB went a bit overboard. Grin. It was quite windy that Saturday and it was a sight to watch me try to carry the big cake and HUGE bunch of balloons to the car. As it was one poor balloon didn't make it...

Micci

They played a fun bean bag pizza game--Mic of course rocked it.

Lorelei

Lori showing us all she's 4 going on 13. Woot! Not. I think I took this pic before she totally stained her front, but I could be wrong.

The Kids

The kids that came to the party. They all had loads of fun.

The Adults

And the adults that brought the kids. Grin. All that is missing is my Dad's wife, she popped out for more food. Waaaay in the back you can see the wee baby I practically gobbled up. And I am not exactly sure what story my husband is telling but I think it involves tentacles.

I've EARNED this!

I planned this for weeks. Casually turning Mic's attention to the TV when the commercial came on. Watching video clips and trailers on the internet. So when I asked him yesterday, "Hey Mic: Do you want to go see Coraline for your Birthday?" I knew his response. "Really? Awesome!!!!"

Hahahahaha! Not only did I get to watch a movie I really wanted to see (the book was awesome), but I avoided having to watch Hotel for Dogs or some other such banality. Woot!!

Coraline was really well done. We saw it in 3D, except for Lorelei. She claimed that she saw the movie better without the glasses. I am guessing she liked all the colours. There were some scary parts for the kids, but it was momentary and a good kind of scary (150% tamer than let's say, I am Legend). Mic left the theatre excited, and wanting to know if we could buy the DVD when it comes out.

Oh yes, today is Micci's 7th birthday. I can't believe it! I remember him as a teeny infant. This time 7 years ago he was very squishy and was nursing like a champ (after a bit of worry with his blood sugar and slight jaundice).

He had his birthday party on Saturday. I need to edit the pictures so I'll post that stuff tomorrow. I am on my laptop presently--and I don't have the awesome, razzle dazzle photo editing software installed here. (I can't find the install disk--I am sure it's in a very safe place.) The only friend that couldn't come to his party was able to spend the evening with him today at McDonald's. So I think my boy had a very very good birthday (filled with Bakugan!).

Winter is Here, for now

It's so cold today, I do NOT want to leave my bed. Thankfully Jamey left his laptop by the bed. Ha! I may never leave the warmth of the covers at all.

Yesterday it was 80 degrees and Lorelei was wearing a sundress. Later that night--it was snowing. This folks IS Texas.

While we listened to the wind howling and the sleet splattering the windows, we ALSO found a new musical obsession. (Me obsession?? Never.) Winter Song from Hotel Cafe Presents Winter Songs. Love LOVE. Here's a video AND how to buy the album. Go get it. My favourite line: "I am the harvester of light."

Yesterday, we kidnapped some out of town friends for lunch and a yarny adventure. I was good and didn't buy any yarn. (I did buy needles though) And when we got home, my birthday present from my parents arrived: Yarn and books from Knit Picks!! Mic was disgusted, "Why are YOU getting packages every day! Not fair." Grin. Birthday's rock. I took loads of pictures. I also got my Secret Santa gift (early because she can't make the party Saturday)--more unfairness for poor Mic. After, I crawl out of bed and wrestle MY computer from the kids I'll upload some pictures.

Secret Santa from Laurel

One of the things I love is found forgotten items. I stumbled upon a book I bought months ago in my Business Tote (it's a massive rolling bag that I keep my Birdy's Baubles and Birdy's Knits samples in), The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It's a vampire historical fiction mystery. Grin and it's absorbing. My birthday present from my Father also arrived yesterday--can't read it yet because of prior found book absorption.

Knit Two

It's been a very nice knitterly birthday.

Birthday-ness

Yesterday was the 7th time I turned 25 (it's my little time experiment--how long can I stay 25??). Contrary to what it seems--I don't mind aging per se--I do mind time passing. I am not sure why, but it freaks me out. I probably would suck as a time traveler. And birthdays just remind me that another year has whizzed passed.

Despite my hang ups, I had a lovely birthday. Earlier in the week my parents gave me a gift card to Knit Picks, which I spent promptly. I thought it was my duty as a consumer in this sagging economy to help Cyber Monday sales figures. And I did with great relish. I got several knitting books that had camped out in my Amazon wishlist and several hanks of yarn to work the projects with in these great books of knitting lace pr0n. I also picked out two balls of luscious RED sock yarn. And a purty lace weight hank in a deep foresty, bluey green color. (Yes, I know, you non-knitting folks, your eyes are beginning to glaze over...one more ebullient yarny shriek) About a week ago, I had the kids "buy" me some beautiful hanks of yarn.

Hand Maiden Sea SilkElla Rae Lace Merino

I also got a beautiful red coat from my in-laws. I picked it out at the end of summer, when they came up for a visit. I had it in the garage--calling to me for months now. I finally got to wear it today!! Woot. It's just gorgeous.

I spent the day yesterday doing some Christmas shopping before we dropped the kids off for an overnight stay with A. (She actually suggested the overnight arrangement--now WHO am I to argue??) (I also picked up a few gifties for myself--a gorgeous wrap and some lilac scented soap--luv lilacs) Jamey and I were now free to enjoy a nice quiet, intimate dinner at one of my favourite restaurants: Cafe Milano--where they serve the best Chicken Marsala--and folks, they ARE NOT stingy with that glorious sauce. I am not above licking that plate clean (I managed to behave myself last night, however).

After dinner, we went to the Shops at La Cantera for my birthday present: a new corset. Luckily, Fredrick's of Hollywood had some proper corsets and on sale. So I got two. Red (because red, I LOVE RED and I can wear it under dark clothes) and white (for every day use). I just love the huggy feeling and it gives me curves--which as a stick I need. Grin. Despite the cold (a cold front came in that morning), we had a good time walking around the shops (it is a very nice high end shopping center). Although it did take us nearly 20 minutes to find a parking space. As we looked at the crowded lot (esp. the crowded Neiman Marcus lot)--Jamey and I turned to each other--are you sure we're in a recession??? Actually and thankfully, Texas is doing quite well despite the hardships around us. We are blessed.

Then of we went to what I was most looking forward to (although the corsets are pretty up there as well): Twilight. It was a good movie and I think it did capture the book quite well. And sparkly Edward--was done well...just what I imagined. I was caught off guard by the film makers style: it's very much like my own. A little mind trip, I'll tell you. The theatre was pretty empty, since it WAS a Thursday and freaking cold; I was spared the fan girl squeals and shrieks.

It was very nice going to bed and waking up with no kids bouncing and pouncing all over the place. And it was reported that the kids had a good time and behaved themselves....just a little bouncy--which is really my kids to a tee.

Today: I have been assembling various Christmas presents I am delivering to Secret Santas. I am also trying to stay warm--and marveling at how my kids can wear shorts on a day like this...

A Happy Suprise

Tuesday was Jamey's birthday (I'm 6 months older than him and I have spent 6 months enduring taunts from him about how old I am)...we came home from the Silver Stars to this:

It was very very sweet--and a mystery.

Now he's thirty too. HA! Welcome to adulthood--grin.

They decorated very well...it took us a solid day to figure out who the decorator was.

It was our friend's T and R (two over the hill fogeys themselves).

Jamey had a quiet low key birthday. We went to see a Silver Stars game where I had arranged a special surprise on the jumbo-tron. It didn't cost anything (which is what he wanted) and it was something different and unexpected for him. And of course generated birthday wishes all around from our Silver Stars friends. The Silver Stars were playing the Houston Comets...we lost, but one of Micci's favourite (former) Silver Stars players now plays for the Comets, Shannon "Pee Wee" Johnson. On our way out of the arena (we stay late to do some cheering and such) we saw Pee Wee leaving out of the same door we were about to leave out of. Because Mic was being shy, I called out to her, and told her how much Micci missed her playing for the team and that she is his favourite all time player. Jamey managed to push Mic up to her so he could shake her hand and say hi. It was a very sweet moment.

And then we cam home to the aformentioned very sweet birthday surprise.

When the Human Head is NOT buoyant

It was Micci's birthday yesterday--his SIXTH birthday. Like an idiot I forgot to bring our camera to his party. Luckily, my friend brought hers--once she downloads them I'll post some here. He had a dinosaur birthday as per his request, we got a awesome roaring dinosaur cake (complete with a volcano and lava pit), with dinosaur gift bags and decorations--complete with dinosaur noses for the guests. Half our guests couldn't make it at the last minute since the mom came down with the flu. Nothing is worse than we Mom gets sick.

I myself can relate, since Saturday I came down with an allergy induced sinus infection (I blame cleaning--I kicked up too much dust). Luckily I was only laid up in bed Saturday and felt better Sunday for Mic's party. Being sick put me seriously behind in my knitting--with my head feeling like it was 50 pounds and dizziness when I sat up: knitting just wasn't in the cards.

In just two days I ran through two boxes of tissues and now I am resorting to rolls of toilet paper. I am constantly amazed just how much snot the human head can produce.

Happy Birthday to ME!!!!

Guess what day it is!!?! It's Birdy's 30th bithday!!

I don't know what to think about this milestone of age. Part of my cringes...30 is SO OLS..the other part is like well you don't look 30 and what does it matter any way??

All sorts of interesting things happened on this date. Notable birthdays include, John Cotton, Mariesa Tomei, Tyra Banks, Jay-Z, Rilke, Margeret Cho, and Big Pokey was actually born the same year as I was...Maybe Kimmy can tell me who that is.

Happy Birthday!!!

Almost Made It

I didn't quite make the goal of NaNoBloMo (although it was SO MUCH fun o say)...I think I missed two maybe three days. Better than my previous attempts at NaNoWriMo...that was just sad and depressing.

I finall deleted all 16K worth of spam on my main email address. It's amazing how much spam I get...I have a blog no one (hardly) goes to--yet I have Spam everywhere! (Which I need to go and delete all that I got today.)

J. had the day of--and we have a birthday party tomorrow--so we went to the mall and bought a toy for the birthday boy. It's the kid's first b-day party--and I am SO nervous about the present. Is it enough? Will he like it? Does he already have it? Do the parents want it? (I get anal about the kids' toys--I like to keep the catagory quaity down) We also shopped for some stuff for J.'s Deli...I think it wore the kids out. They are both passed out on the floor. WHich is so vert lovely, since 5 minues ago they were screeching and bothering each other.

So since latr last night--I got 309 emails...one which was sent a month from now and a dozen or so that will be sent tomorrow I LOVE spam time travel!!!

Well, now that the kids are asleep--I am off to make ma self some popcorn!

OH--before I foget--my birthday is Tuesday--and those that care and love me...my Amazon wish list is over there to the right...

Smirk, I have needs after all...

Sorry for the brains on your shirt

Whew!!!!!!

Today was so much FUN! Birdy's Knits was having technical issues this morning. Only thing that kept my head from exploding as my knitting. But, all is fine and no one was harmed.

In other head exploding events, Kimmy is 18 years old--my baby sister is an adult! How did that happen? I remember her, clear as day, being Lorelei's age. Not only that but in THREE WEEKS I will be THIRTY!! 30. Three zero.

I'll be buying my self something special: a penny whistle.

Procrastination!!!

It's what I do best.

I am not dead. Just trying to keep my sanity and clean the house.

If you didn't hear the screaming from Texas: here's what happened:

WAAAAAAAAAH!!! Lorelei CUT her hair!! SOB! It was finally long enough to pull back into a pony tail and she CUTS it. Now it's too short to even put into pig tails.

In other news: I do have pictures of Lorelei's birthday party. I need to finish editing them for the web. Then I'll post some and put the rest onto Flickr. ALSO: Craig is here for a two week visit. He came over last night and the kids were wildly happy that he was here.

Thank you all for your support (I love getting comments!! Keep 'em comin'!)--I've just been overwhelmed with housework and non-listening 5 year olds.

A parting picture of Lorelei's hair...I knowit will gorw back, but still... I have hair issues.

Ma baby girl is THREE!!

I have a weird hang up with people growing up...it just freaks em out. Even though it's inevitable and inexorable it still weirds me out to see friend's having kids and my kids turning into little kids instead of babies.

Lorelei had a great birthday. We went as a family to Mr. Gatti's--we had picked up a super cute My Little Pony cake (which had a slight unfortunate accident). We met our friend Marcie and we ate and played and opened up all of Lorelei's various Pony gifts. T & R came too! T. had to work so they brought their daughter towards the end but with enough time to spare for the kids to play and go nuts.

Lorelei got a fantastic fisher price doll house from her grand parents--she's been playing with it pretty much none stop--actually Micci has been having lots of fun as well. Lorelei also got her Pony baby--got two actually--so she's been attending them in her spare time. It's so cute how she runs back and forth.

I think what I'll miss most is getting free food for Lorelei.

Birthday Wishes

Jamey: Lorelei, where do you want to go for your birthday?

Lorelei: Pony!!

Jamey: Lori, WHERE do you want to go for your party??

Lorelei: Pony Candles!!!

Jamey (trying a new tactic): What do you want to eat at your birthday?

Lorelei: Pony CAKE!!!! It's my faay-vit.

I think it's safe to say Lorelei wants a My Little Pony birthday.

She also wants that new Pony Baby for her present. Of all the toys she "wants" when she sees the commercial--this was the only one she went ape shit for. I think it's the combo of dolly and PONY!!!

What I can't believe is that Lori's birthday NEXT Saturday.

Pictures and My Obsessions

I found my camera the other day--in my knitting bag. Sigh. My knitting is like some sort of gnome that steals and hides stuff. Most of the time if I am missing something and I find it--I find it in with my knitting.

Of course I found it after Mic's birthday and L.'s wedding. I just developed the film I took over Christmas and for Mic's birthday.

The Thomas the Tank Engine Cake I made. Inside it's chocolate, blue and yellow cake (what Mic wanted) and I iced it all by myself. It's actually the first cake I decorated totally by myself. I think it looks pretty accurate to the sketch I made.

Here's Micci playing hot potato with his party guests. It's sadly the only picture that came out showing the people at the party.

Lorelei eating crckers waiting for the party to start.

Micci insisted that he wear the birthday crown and the party hat. This was before the hair cut--which he thanksfully got a few days before L.'s wedding.

This was NOT Mic's birthday, but a pic from Christmas. It took me ages to clean up after Christmas.

On to other things...I finished up the last Harry Potter book last night--well the last published. I cried so hard. Mind you I have read this book 4 times...and I still cry like a baby at the end. Actually I cried twice. As Jamey handed me a tissue, he said, "It's just a story--it's not real." Yeah, but J.K. Rowling is a terrific writer. It's roughly 145 days till the seventh and last harry Potter book comes out. (I am tempted to put a count down banner up...really really tempted) I can barely stand the wait. I spend my days reading The Leaky Cauldron forums and essays. I want to start knitting something Harry Potterish as a count down to the book and movie...yip yip. Which gives me a real fun idea...I could make tons a wee hats in honor of S.P.E.W. and donate them to hospitals for infants. Hmmm--that is a neat idea.

It didn't fit right into my story yesterday, but we also bought Micci a computer last night. A refurbished tower for $139--we already have monitor, keyboard and mouse already...Mic was so excited. So am I--no fighting over computer time! Mic was confused however, because he kept trying to find the screen on the tower. My computer is a Gateway Profile (a flat screen with a computer inside) and Jamey's computer is a laptop--so neither of us have working towers.

We may still end up fighting over internet time. We aren't, for now, setting his computer up to the 'net--so there might come a time when he wants to go to nickjr or noggin. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Swiss Cheese for Brains

Everyone who knows me knows I have a horrible, horrible memory. I am not even 30, but I am convinced that by 40 I'll no longer remember where I live.

In recounting Micci's birthday party I forgot to actually talk about what happened at his party. Sigh, why do I even blog if I can't tell a story?? So he's the story. <>p>We arrived at Mr. Gatti's really early....just to make sure we weren't late--because that happens A LOT--just so happened everyone else was late. That's okay--because they showed up and Mic had kids, actual kids at his party. Everyone, employees and party goers alike, admired the cake I made. I don't have pictures of it right now because I can't remember where i put my camera and so we had to use some disposables we have laying around. We stuffed our selves with pizza and buffet items (me salad and tons of baked potatoes) And our party planner entertained the kids, which made the 150 dollar expenditure totally worth it. Mic was so excited that he learned out to play Hot Potato.

So excited in fact that when it came to blowing out his candles and making the wish....we had to do it three times. First immediately after lit the candles, Lorelei blew them out, because she hates fire and is afraid of birthday candles. Second in the midst of singing, "Happy Birthday" and then third and finally when we actually let go of his mouth so he could blow out the candles and make his wish.

I forgot that Lorelei is afraid of birthday candles. Bad, because she totally and memorably freaked out on her birthday. We're not totally sure why fire frightens her so, she's never been burned by fire or been close or been in a frightening candle situation.

I bought Micci a balloon bouquet for HEB before the party (a Thomas Mylar and 4 latex balloons), they were weighed down with Safety-Pops but they proved to tempting a weight for Lorelei. Luckily one of the tall young men that worked there was able to get the balloons back to me--the A/C current had pushed the bunch to the jungle gym so the young man was able to climb on top to rescue my balloons.

Stupid me, also already finished the book I got yesterday at Half Price Books--so I have nothing to read when I am unable to knit, i.e on the Loo or while eating. Instead, I read all morning...when I could have been knitting. Someday I'll figure out how to knit and eat; knit and do dishes. Life would be perfect.

The Big FIVE

Micci is five today. I've been a Mommy for five years--it's very unreal. Scroll around that month for the wonderousness that is the first month of motherhood.

I got up super early (yes Mother, 8 am is SUPER DUPER early for me now--always has been--nothing you can do will ever change that) in the chilly morning (okay here in South Texas 40 degrees is very very cold)--never mind it was a Saturday. All for the love of my son...for his birthday and it's accompanying party just so we'd be all prepared. I had horrid flashbacks to when I worked a nine to five (or in my case 8 to 4.30) job and had to get up in the dark and shower when it was cold. I HATE showering in the cold. My sacrifice was worth it though--we got there early, actually too early, and everyone else was running a teensy bit late.

We had a really fun party at Mr. Gatti's (pizza buffet-with baked taters, yum!-and token games)--it was Micci's first little kid party. Everyone had loads of fun. Mic exchanged his tickets for a bunch of teeny animals and dinosaurs...of course. I even got to knit on my socks--so that was awesome.

I spent a half an hour perusing my blog from when Mic was first born. I miss that wee baby--but Mic the big kid of five is awesomely neat and I wouldn't want him any other way. But my blog DID NOT capture the first frantic months of his babyhood--except in long breaks between blog posts.

Micci this year has grown A LOT--length wise and emotionally. We're able to talk about things in new ways and I get to see more of his quirky, fun personality and his crazy sense of humour. It's also been hard because now that he's growing up, he's pushing my buttons and I find my self wish I was anywhere but here. Between the mean mommy comments and his know it all attitude, it's been very trying...but well someday I'll look back and laugh...far far into the future.

Oh,Mic did love how his cake turned out. I can't find my camera, again, so we used some disposables--once those get printed I'll post then here. The cake turned out just like my sketch. I was proud of my first attempt at decorating a cake.

Birthday: Two Days Away

Yesterday I finally began feeling better. After J. got home from work headed out and did errands for Micci's birthday party on Saturday. I also bought the sweetest dress for Lorelei to wear to L.'s wedding. Then to Dollar Tree for the party favors--I LOVE Dollar Tree. I got a mess of stuff for only 30 bucks. They also have fun candy that you never see any where else--like super duper peanut filled Snickers.

Today I plan on making Micci's cake and then spending tomorrow decorating (cursing) Mic's cake. I sketched it out today. I just hope I can translate it to icing.

Mic wants a chocolate AND yellow cake with bright blue frosting. He wasn't too impressed with the sketch. Micci wants a cake shaped like Thomas, well, they are out of that at the cake store--so you're getting this masterpiece. I also broke it to him that he's not getting presents at his birthday party--the kids being there is the present. Frankly he's got enough presents coming from family and his room is full of toys (never mind a total mess)--he doesn't need MORE toys.

I just can't believe he'll be 5 this year. It's so weird. My baby is a big boy. I just can't wait till he can stay dry every night.
