San Andreas Cake

Remember that cake I was going to make for my mom? And you know that saying how too much of a good thing is a bad thing? Well apparently too much icing on a cake can make a cake look like California's fault line.

I had made the cake Saturday afternoon and had J. frost it. It was a simple two layer cake and he had only lightly frosted the outside of the cake when he ran out of icing. (He had used most of the icing in between the layers.) So I got out a buy more...and so I finish the cake. I dusted it with crushed peppermint candies and covered it.

Next morning, I notice a small crack on top of the cake. Hmm, that's weird I thought...maybe there was an air pocket in the cake and I should have put the cake in the fridge like J told me to. Well, as the day wore on the crack continued to grow until it looked like someone has tried cutting themselves I large peice of cake over the top layer. And finally the that top portion slide off the bottom layer.

Is there a lesson? 1. Make Dad make mom's stupid cake 2. Don't let J. use too much icing. 3. Listen to aforementioned J. when he says to put the cake in the fridge.
