Poetry is BORING?

I was watching a show today that deatured a little tour of Longfellow's home...where he wrote much of his poetry. And he made his fortune with his poems. Could he do that today...NO.

I think its really weird given today's fast paced short attention span world...poems even long ones are easier to get through than novels. But I think the fault lies with the english teachers of the world. They make them seem hard to understand and intellectual--above the common man. And they are NOT! Poetry is what best expresses human feeling in word form. Novels don't...unless they are really novel length poems hiding out as prose.

There is also such a stigma on poets--especially if you are young. I've heard it's a waste of time. It's not really writing. Stop mooning over that and get on with real life. Mainly it's grow up! When did word talent equate with wasting time!?
