Tragic Irony

Five years later, it hits me...the beauty and irony of Flight United 93...strangers united to avert even more death and destruction...sacrificing themselves. I guess 5 years ago, irony ceased to mean anything to me...because it was clobbering me.

I've been asking some people (not many) if they are going to see it. I got, "No it's R-Rated" from my mom--(pretty unsatisfactory but oh well) and "Sure." From M. I am curious because I can not even think of bring myself to rip the scab off of that wound just yet....who knows if ever.

I've read Opinion Essays demanding that every American should see it. Because we need reminding what happened... I can barely bring myself to watch the 9-11 documentaries...I sob while I watch them...I flinch terribly when I see replays of the second plane crashing into the 2nd tower and again when the towers fall. I remember with utter clarity that morning when our world was shattered...the comfortable little safe world we had been living in...our glass house was shattered. I remember rubbing my stomach, wondering what sort of world my litle boy was going to grow up in. I wasn't suprised that it happened...I knew it was coming...I have a touch of Cassandra after all...but to be faced with the reality of it...was horrifying.

I am not saying no one should see it or that's it's too soon...because yes it should be seen by any one that can--but to imply that I am unAmerican because I won't/can't...it's insulting. I know all too well the human condition...to survive such a pycological blow like we suffered on 9-11...our memories and feelings fade and we do forget. But some haven't, some don't--and some will live with the vividness of the memory till they die.

I don't need reminding.
