Count down to T-Day
Thanksgiving that is. Last night I went out at 11.30 pm (a half an hour before the grocery store closed) to get the turkey, pies and such. We got a fully cooked turkey so all we have to do is reheat it for a few hours. I have a deep aversion to actually making a turkey from raw. The idea of pulling out it's "luggage" of parts from its arse is just icky. I really don't like touching raw meat too much...I use boneless, skinless chicken breast for this reason and ground beef doesn't resemble anything anymore--so that's okay. I am making my mother's rolls for the first time ever and I am a little nervous. I bought some King's Hawaiian Hawaiian Sweet Rolls just in case (that and I LOVE those rolls). And of course we're making the traditional sweet potato casserole his family makes sans marshmellows thank you very much, they use a fan-tabulous brown sugar, butter and cornflake crumble topping.
I am still cleaning Micci's room--day 4 now. That room was a total disaster. When I am done I will post before and after pics. And you'll see why it took four days to clean. Then on to the kitchen which has been neglected in the "must clean Mic's room craze."
I am hoping the kids will enjoy Thanksgiving. I am printing out some color pages and activities so they'll leave me alone to cook. Perhaps I'll give each of them a bit of the roll dough to play with.
Oh, I nearly forgot the Thankful Chain. I started a traditional last year of writing the things we were thankful for on a strip of construction paper and making a long chain to hang on the mantle. Maybe I'll make Thankful Leaves as well. Mic will only need a tad of coaching and I'll guess what Lorelei is thankful for. I'll need to make soem strips tonight for J. so he'll be able to contribute. He'll be at work till 2pm on Thanksgiving--hopefully he's not too tired to do it tonight.
Luckily nothing's really good is on TV tonight (till The Nine) so I can get some cleaning done.
