It's an Honour

I'm still in the depths of obsession over the Clapotis...it's nearly 3/4 finished. I am taking a break today--only knitting a row in between baskets of laundry. Grin.

Since it's Memorial Day I wanted to talk a bit about how the Iraq war effects and affects my life. All three of my parents were in the Air Force and my grand father was in the Air Force as well and served in the Korean War. My two brothers are both serve in the Army--one has already served a tour in Afghanistan and my other brother is waiting for his turn. Both my parents made great sacrifices to serve our country, although never called to war. My Mother lost custody of me in the divorce because she was in the Air force. My Father me isolated from his family because of hi security clearance and his frequent trips away. I am very proud of my brothers because both of them joined after the war in Iraq was started--they knew exactly what they were getting into, but they still wanted to serve.

Yesterday, our local newspaper featured the story of Marquis McCants a Combat Medic that was killed in Iraq, who went to my brothers' high school during their time there--he graduated a few years before my brothers did. Again, I wondered if I would be reading an article like that about one of my own brothers. Just pondering the ultimate sacrifice of my brothers is heart rending.

No matter what you're views on this war--please honor the men and women serving our country here and abroad, working to protect us. They are doing a great job and are making massive sacrifices to do it.
