Happy Valentine's Day

My sweetie husband, left a pile of candy, chocolate covered strawberries, and tulips for me and the kids this morning. He does this every year, but I totally forgot this year and was totally surprised this morning. The kids were very excited and woke me up yelling, "Wake up Mommy! Daddy left us CANDY!!!"

They are gorgeous and I never tire of getting tulips. Lorelei immediately exclaimed: "You need an Aqua Globe!!!" (The link repeats the commerical and Lorelei just ran over, "See Mommy you need them! DO you want you plants to DIE!?!?" Yes my kids watch too much TV.

Micci ate his 4 strawberries in minutes. Lorelei ate three of hers in one gulp, leaving one to share with her brother. (She's in a giving mood lately--last night she had a conniption because I wouldn't let her give 5 dollars out of her money jar to Micci.) The kids were impressed with the size of my candy box: "Wow, Daddy must really love you!"

Gina ate some of the leaves. I hope they aren't toxic.

I am making chicken stock for tonight's valentine's dinner. I am making risotto. I haven't had the best luck with risotto (using store bought stocks and broths), so I am trying homemade stock. I had Jamey buy a rotiserrie chicken last night--I deboned it and refridgerated all the useful bits. I tossed in the pot this morning: chicken bones, onions, garlic, thyme, basil, bay leaf, rosemary, peppercorns and lots of water. I am saving the chicken meat for the risotto. The hardest part about making this stock is leaving it be. Grin.

I hope y'all have a wonderful Valentine's Day--even if you don't have a significant other--Valentine's Day isn't just for lovers. It's a time to stop and remember those you love and that love you back.
