Happy Mothers Day...
To me!!! Oh and you too mom. Smirk. Happy Mother's Day to all you hard working, under appreciated moms.
So far...all I have done today is knit a baby afghan and give Micci a bath. Hey it's mother's day I am taking some downtime.
Yesterday we spent the day at T&R's house for their daughter's 4th birthday. It was great fun and great food. Micci had a blast. He got to play with kids closer to his age and then eat candy and get sticky and dirty.
Although, I think the pinata traumatised him. Mikki (the birthday girl) had a Clifford theme and so had a Clifford pinata. Well, Micci LOVES dogs. It was one of his first words. Hitting the Clifford pinata was no big deal, but seeing its decapitated and disemboweled body laying in the grass was more than Mic could digest. He didn't sob, but just pointed to poor Clifford's mangled body repeating the phrase, "Look, doggie, broken, LOOK!" over and over. We tried hiding the pinata but he would go back to the "Scene of the accident" and repeat that same phrase. Eventually we were able to distract him and he played fine...until much later in the evening when Mic found the "body." Poor boy. We tried to explain to him that it was a pinata and it was the pinata's job to break and spill out candy. The Clifford was fake and NOT a real doggie. But I don't know if that really made a difference.
But one can see the inherent cruelty in children as I watched them beat the pinata into submission while it laid on the grass after the robe broke. Of course store bought pinata's are built like tanks...so in the end one of the guys had to rip Clifford's head off to get all the candy out. And those strings they have to open up the pinata if it won't break? Those don't work very well either. So, when we have a pinata for Mic...1. it won't be a doggie and 2. I'll make it my self out of actual paper mache--not cardboard and heavy tape!!!
