Book Lovers don't read this!

So I have been properly offended. I am the sort of person that collects books...and I would say my that books are second only to my children...and before I had children they WERE my children. I love scouring used book stores to rescue books from abused or neglected existences...but I would never give any of my books to a used book store or sell them. I buy books that I love and I enjoy reading them over and over. There is not a single book in my collection that I haven't read. And I have 5 bookshelves overflowing with books...I could easily say I have well over a thousand books...and in my mind that is not enough.

Having said all that, this article that was printed in our local newspaper (The San Antonio Express News), horrified me to the core.
"A library inside a newly renovated home in Connecticut gleams with row upon row of polished leather-bound books that climb 20 feet to the ceiling. An elegant rolling ladder and a narrow catwalk provide access to 13,000 books whose rich hues, exquisite bindings and gilt lettering provide an aura of wealth and sophistication. The homeowners, a wealthy businessman and his wife, will never read any of them."
This is my dream!! And this boobs are mocking it!!! Per the article, most of those books are in French (and you guessed it--they don't speak French). It's the worst sort of social impersonation I can fathom. It's one thing to display all your "best" books (the ones that are classics or true litature, but you have actually read them!) prominently in a public place to make sure your guest know you are well read...it's ANOTHER to PRETEND you are well read.

Books aren't displays or ornaments!! They are meant to be read!! Argh. I knew this was done, but on that scale it's just horrifying.
