The great unwashed

My mother is becoming Michael Jackson. The flu has not killed masses of people in a hundred or so years. If you're healthy like my parents then you'll get the flu and be fine. It's even more incentive to use the stairs to avoid the confined spaces of the elevator. And the bird flu...well that certainly is a possiblity, but for now it hasn't yet crossed the animal human barrier. It's just the media stirring up a frenzy.

This brings me to another fun topic...bacteria and our irrational fear of them. In this case we are our own worst enemy. We scrub ourselves with antibacterial soap many times a day and wonder why we still get sick or why we break out in rashes and viral infections. We bathe like no other nation and scoff at those that gasp don't bathe daily. I was reading an article where a dermatoligst said that all this over bathing is setting us up for skin infections (both viral and bacterial) because we are washing our good bacteria away. This good bacteria takes care of our skin (aling with the mites that eat our skin) and makes sure nothing else can grow and hurt us. When we over bathe we wash off these good "bugs" and set ourselves up for problems. He never said how much we should bathe, but he did say daily was too much.

This made me think...but what about my hair...if I don't wash it every day it's greasy. (I have also heard overwashing hair strips it of natural oils and also protect our hair and this damages it) I would have to pile on product or cover it or wrap it up to hide the dreaded oil, becaus eit's so unpopular in our society.

We have so many issues.
