Walking For Breast Cancer
On Saturday the family particpated in The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure...and I am just now recovering. We walked 6 miles (3 of the miles was for parking) and I definately need better sneakers for the next Charity Walk I do. My feet were numb after the first mile...not even to the start of the walk. And yesterday my calves hurt so much I could barely walk. And yes, I got some knitting done. Ha! I knitted while I walk a special breast cancer rememberence scarf which I'll give to Lorelei.
I don't have enough yarn in that color to finish up the scarf, so I'll just complementary colors and make it stripey patchwork. I know everyone else makes Chemo hats, but I didn't think I could handle the 4 double point needle juggling while walking. I may have stabbed myself in the gut.
I also got the scarf that Ford put out this year...an actual scarf instead of a hankerchief...I love collecting them...they are always so pretty and colorful. I might add a cute knitting border on it for some additional "style."
HEB had $4.49 copies of The DaVinci Code in paperback, so I picked one up. At first I didn't want to read it because everyone else did. I am not one to jump on a band wagon, but this was an excellent read. I am suprised it did so well, because it actually makes you think. Although I am not so sure about seeing the movie, since I already know what is going to happen and it's a suspense thriller and it's no fun when you kow the ending.
I wish I had got pictures of the Walk, but I had my camera on the Stoller, and J. was pushing it and left me waaaaay behind...I made it to the finish line 10 minutes after he did. And after the walk I was waaay to tired--and before the Walk it was too dark still. Did I mention we were up at 3.30?? In the AM?? Lore was NOT a happy girl Saturday afternoon...everything Micci did seemed to annoy the crap out of her and she was biting and pinching and yelling at him the entire afternoon. Yes we have entered sibiling rivalery.
Thunk.
Also i noticed a small group of people at the end of the race handing out teeny pink papers declaring that abortions can cause breast cancer...the BIG KOMEN LIE!!!! I wanted to smack them up side their ignorant heads.
On a related note I saw this today on CNN.com. Apparently there is only ONE clinic that performs abortions in South Dakota and only 4 out of state doctors that will perform them. This scares me! And it's so dangerous and irresponsible! How many babies are going to be born to families or single mothers that do not or can not support them?? How many more will grow up in abused homes because there parents are angery at them for living, or can not handle them (because they alreayd have 10 other siblings) or are in foster care? And how many of them will become our next pyscho serial killers or at the very least beaten down trod upon individuals that have never felt loved. Sure some people survive horrendous child hoods, but not many.
